Volume, 1825-1832, re arithmetic and poetry book including arithmetic entries re simple reduction of English and federal money, math, cloth, avoirdupois weight, liquid measure, dry measure, time and general mathematics; poetry entries include copies of poems and original compositions. Including inscription "Rosanna McCullough, her book bought of John McLee, Chesterville, by her father Samuel McCullough Aug. 1st 1826 compiled under the direction of George Smith Schoolmaster at Fishing Creek Church 1825."

Samuel McCullough (1826-ca. 1890) was a California businessman and state assemblyman. He came from New Jersey in 1855 to Sacramento, CA, where he practiced his trade as a carpenter. In 1858 he joined the gold rush to the Fraser River in Canada but returned to San Francisco in 1860 and worked as a building contractor and hotel proprietor.
